RE at Northwood
At Northwood Primary School, we want out children to develop and foster respect, tolerance and curiosity. We do this within our RE curriculum by providing an inclusive and enquiry-based curriculum that prepares children for life in modern Britain. Through exploring a diverse range of religious and non-religious views, we aim to do the following:
- Promote understanding and empathy by encouraging children to ask big questions about meaning, purpose and belief and to engage thoughtfully with different perspectives.
- Develop critical thinking and personal reflection, enabling pupils to evaluate ideas respectfully and form their own informed responses.
- Celebrate diversity and belonging, helping children appreciate the role of religion and belief in shaping communities locally and globally.
- Nurture values of kindness, fairness and respect, supporting children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
- Inspire awe and wonder, encouraging exploration of life’s big questions and ethical decision-making in light of responsibilities to others and the wider world
Our approach combines substantive knowledge of beliefs, practices and traditions with disciplinary skills in theology, philosophy and human/social sciences. Through literature, artefacts, visits to places of worship and open dialogue, we aim to create meaningful learning experiences that empower children to become reflective, open-minded citizens who contribute positively to society.
