At Northwood Primary School, we believe that a well-rounded education extends far beyond academics, and our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum plays a pivotal role in shaping the whole child. Our curriculum is designed to develop children into thoughtful, responsible citizens who are prepared to navigate the world with confidence, empathy, and resilience.

We implement our PSHE curriculum in a way that fosters understanding and respect for the rights and responsibilities we all share. Children explore key themes such as feelings and friendships, helping them develop emotional intelligence and positive relationships. We also cover important aspects of health and well-being, ensuring children understand how to take care of their bodies and minds, while learning about identity, self-worth, and the importance of mental health. This curriculum follows statutory guidance and is implemented by trained staff who teach concepts in an age-appropriate, sensitive manner.

Our curriculum provides children with the knowledge and skills to manage money and finances, making them aware of how financial decisions impact their lives and communities. Additionally, we teach safety and risk, empowering students to recognize potential hazards and make informed choices to keep themselves and others safe.

Because of the way our curriculum is taught, we aim for children at Northwood to talk confidently about their learning, use appropriate language to describe emotions, talk about risk and demonstrate responsibility in their behaviour.

Through a balanced, engaging approach, our PSHE curriculum helps children grow as responsible, respectful, and active members of society, ready to embrace the challenges of today’s world.
