At Northwood Primary School, we use iPads to not only deliver our computing curriculum, but also to supplement the learning of children in other subjects. Our children have access to a range of applications to support their learning which can be downloaded and accessed at home. We’ve summarized the apps and what they are used for below (please click the icons to download the apps via the Apple App Store/Google Play:

Maths Apps

TT Rockstars: An app that sequences times tables in a fun and engaging fashion where children can challenge their classmates (and teachers) to be the fastest at recalling their times tables.

1-minute maths: Helps children build number confidence through fun and engaging 1-minute tasks.

Fractions: Lets pupils use bar or circle models to represent, compare and perform operations with fractions.

Numbots: A highly engaging platform to help children with their recall of addition and subtraction facts.

Computing Apps

Clips: A free app for making fun videos that can be used to provide information about a topic, concept or area of learning.

Pages: A word processing tool that allows users to create a range of documents such as flyers, posters and information leaflets.

IMovie: This app is used to make Hollywood-style movies and trailers that can be used for a range of purposes across different areas of the curriculum.

GarageBand: This app turns the iPads into a collection of Touch Instruments and a fully featured recording studio.

Scratch Jr: This is an introductory programming language app that enables young children (ages 5 and up) to create their own interactive stories and games. 

Scratch: This is the more advanced version of the programming app in which children can code their own interactive stories, games, and animations.
